Facing History and Ourselves: 25 Years in Memphis
featuring keynote speaker Jelani Cobb
Monday, October 23, 2017
Jelani Cobb holds the Ira Lipman professorship at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and is a staff writer at The New Yorker where he frequently writes about race, history, justice, and culture in America. In 2015, Cobb received the Sidney Hillman Prize for Opinion and Analysis Journalism for his New Yorker columns, in which he combined the strengths of an on-the-scene reporter, a public intellectual, a teacher, a vivid writer, a subtle moralist, and an accomplished professional historian.
Facing History and Ourselves equips educators and youth with skills that allow them to wrestle with today's issues through the lens of history. We believe that by empowering our youth, they will build a more engaged, moral, and compassionate society.
