Memphis was made by upstanders. Help us honor their memory and inspire others.
Facing History and Ourselves needs your help to create The Memphis Upstanders Mural! This community artwork will honor upstanders in the Memphis community - those who chose to take positive action in the face of injustice.
Among the winning nominations, an artist will be selected to create the inspiring mural. It will be painted on the east wall of the Facing History office at 115 Huling Avenue, where it will be seen by hundreds of thousands of visitors to the National Civil Rights Museum and South Main District every year.
Join us for a Community Conversation and performance of the acclaimed gospel musical, Look What A Wonder.
Using Gospel music, this story encourages audiences to consider the legacy of Denmark Vesey, who led a revolt against slavery in Charleston, South Carolina. It will inspire you to think about universal themes of courage, resilience, justice and equity in our society today.
