Dear Nancy,

Below are our recommended resources and professional learning highlights for the week. We hope you find them helpful.

Ideas This Week

The 2024 election may be over, but the democratic process continues to be top news as the functions of a lame duck president and an incoming president are consistently analyzed in the press. Facing History can help you and your students cut through the noise with our Elections Collection lessons that offer historical context around elections, media literacy, choosing to participate, and more.

On the Calendar

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches in the United States, we are reminded of its duality: it is both a commemoration of a harvest marking a partnership between Native Americans and white colonists and a reminder of the violence that Native Americans endured as a result of European colonization. This is put into additional focus as we honor National American Indian Heritage Month in November. One way to reflect on this complicated history is by elevating Indigenous stories and voices—here we share two articles from our archives.
